If you’ve ever been to the doctor, or know someone that has to give themselves shots, then you probably know about needles and injections. Usually, when people think of that, they think of the pain associated with it. But, with Buzzy, that pain is a thing of the past. The unique product was featured on season 5 of Shark Tank. Find out where they are now with this update and five facts below.
1) Amy Baxter is the creator of Buzzy. It’s an injection, vaccination, IVF, and/or diabetes needle pain reliever with cold pads. The name comes from the vibration the device makes, and its bee design.
2) The vibrating bee device has ice pack wings that help relieve injection site discomfort. The goal is to make needles or syringes less frightening by numbing the skin before the shot takes place.
3) Amy studied pain management to create the product. While she was working in the emergency department, she taught herself and other colleagues how to manage pain without using drugs. As she was researching nerves and the mechanisms in the brain, she came up with the idea for Buzzy. She conducted clinical trials to study the efficacy of the product too.
4) When Amy was on Shark Tank, she asked for $500,000 in exchange for 5%. While she did not receive a deal, she did not let that deter her. Since her appearance, the Buzzy line has expanded to include other pain management products. VibraCool for knees, elbows, and feet, as well as an acupuncture system are available online and on Amazon. The original bestseller Buzzy comes in the bee design, a polka dot design, and plain black.
5) At the time of the episode, it was used in 1,200 hospitals and had $1 million in sales. Now, it’s in approximately 5,000 hospitals/clinics and has en estimated net worth of $5 million.
