5 Facts on Misfit Foods from Shark Tank

  • by

If you consider yourself to be “semi-vegetarian,” there’s a food product for you. Enter Misfit Foods, the “flexitarian” way to get more veggies with your protein. The company makes sausage and other meats with half veggies, half healthful meat. If you’re curious to learn more about the hybrid company, keep reading below. We’ve got five facts before it debuts on Shark Tank this week.

Details on Misfit Foods

1) Misfit Foods were founded by Phil Wong and Dave Betts. They are environmental entrepreneurs. The original goal was to reduce produce waste. But, they soon discovered that meat makes more of an impact than plant-based foods.

2) Now, the mission is to make healthy meat and veggie sausages that are 50/50. Half meat-based, half delicious vegetables. They hope to increase veggie consumption with their products. Another goal is to become a go-to for people who want plant-based alternatives but still like meat.

3) Currently, there are 4 sausage flavors, and 2 beef mixes. The four chicken sausages are: sweet potato, kabocha squash, citrus kale, and curry carrot. The two beefs are: curry carrot and Korean barbecue. The sausages are 50/50; the beef is 60/40 (60% grass-fed beef, 40% veggies/spices).

4) There are numerous health and environmental benefits to their products. Not only are you getting nutrient-rich foods, but you’re helping the planet. Cutting down on meat cuts down on deforestation, and reduces your footprint.

5) Right now, you can order online on Amazon on their website. Or, they are available at Fresh Direct, Whole Foods, Imperfect Foods, and Good Eggs stores
