Get to Know Ava August

1) Ava August is 15 years old. She’s a freshman at Dana Hills High School in California. Her local newspaper did an article on her, writing that she’s been singing since she could talk.

Bonus Fact: She can play the ukulele! Check out a lovely little cover she did on Valentine’s Day below:

2) American Idol isn’t Ava’s first reality singing competition show. Nope. At age 12, she was the youngest Blind Audition contestant for NBC’s The Voice. She was contacted by NBC reps to audition for the show because they saw her previous performances.

Bonus Fact: She was approached by Idol execs in the same way. Back then, she was asked to audition after they saw some of her YouTube videos!

3) Her sound is definitely pop, almost reminiscent of Lorde or Billie Eilish. Check out her latest single “Daybreak” below to see for yourself:

4) She was awarded two scholarships for GRAMMY programs in Los Angeles. She was the youngest to attend GRAMMY Camp Weekend in 2018. Later in 2019, she went to the GRAMMY Museum’s Summer Sessions.

5) Ava’s got a great stage presence. She’s performed in front of stadium crowds, including a sold-out LA Kings hockey arena. She was even recruited by the Dodgers to perform! Impressive for a teenager, right?

So, will Ava’s amazing voice get her a golden ticket? Find out when American Idol airs on March 14 at 8 PM ET, only on ABC.
