Update on Basepaws from Shark Tank Season 10

  • by

Back in May 2019, Anna Skaya dove in to the Shark Tank during season 10. Anna pitched her product: an at-home DNA kit called Basepaws. She went in hoping to snag at least one shark, and left with two! With Kevin O’Leary and Robert Herjavec onboard, there’s nothing that this business can’t do. If you’re curious to learn more about it, plus what they’ve been up to since the show, keep reading below.

Update: 5 Facts on Basepaws

1) Anna worked in start-ups prior to her Shark Tank debut, so she was armed with the facts for her pitch. This helped convince the investors of her credibility and the pique their interest about the product.

2) Basically, Basepaws is an at-home DNA kit for your cat. You take a bit of your cat’s fur, and send it off for analysis. At the time, it was $95 to receive a full report of your cat’s genetic makeup, including breed info and disease risk.

3) Anna’s mission is “to make the world better for cats (and their humans),” and in season 10, the goal was to compile a worldwide database. Since the show, they’ve grown their following, and increased the price to meet demand. It went from $95 to $99 for the breed test; $149 for breed and health; $499 for whole genome.

4) Their social media game has improved exponentially. Basepaws’ Instagram account boasts over 30,000 followers; Twitter has over 1,300; Facebook has over 24,000 followers/likes.

5) Even though Anna asked for $250,000 for 5%, but walked away with $250,000 for 10%, her company’s still valued at 2.5 million. That’s pretty great for a Shark Tank debut only a year and a half ago!

You can catch Anna alongside Mr. Wonderful himself (Kevin O’Leary) for their update on Shark Tank airing Jan. 8 at 8 PM ET on ABC.
