JicaFoods co-owners Xin and Melissa are a husband and wife team who discovered Jicama when vacationing in Mexico. They loved it so much they chose to create a completely new company. 1. JicaFoods is based off of the Jicama which comes from the Aztec word xicamatl. This root vegetable has been part of Mexican and Central American diets for centuries. It has a taste like a cross between an apple and a potato. According to jicafoods.com, “the Jicama is low in calories, sugar and carbs. It is also high in fiber, vitamin C and potassium. It is also a natural source of prebiotic fiber.”
2. They took the power of this nutritious fruit and created multiple products including Jica Sticks, salsa, and thinly sliced which works with tacos. They can be good for dinner appetizers or easy snacks.
3. Their products can be found in stores only on the west coast, particularly in the southwest. If you go to Walmart or Sprouts stores in the San Diego and Southern Arizona areas. While they show the products on their website, they do not have an e-commerce store. Instead they send people to find a store near them where the products are carried.
4. JicaFoods has many options. They even share three different recipes using their Jicama Wraps and fries. Some of the recipes include Lime Chicken Jicama Wrap Tacos, Mango Shrimp Jicama Tacos, and Golden Jicama Fries. You can find the recipes here.
