American Idol airs its Hollywood round episode this week. One contestant taking part is Christina Daugherty. Before the March 21 episode, check out these five facts we gathered. You’ll learn a lot about this bright new talent.
Update 3/21/21: English teacher, Christina Daugherty brought her guitar out on the stage and sang a super bluesy version of “Hit the Road Jack.” She was chosen to move to Hollywood Duets Week.
Get to Know Christina Daugherty
1) While Christina Daugherty is her full name, she goes by Redd on stage. Redd Music is where you can find her social media wise. Another fun fact? Her name is coincidentally similar to former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry!
2) In case you were wondering, yes, she does in fact have red hair. The vivid color makes her look stand out. That works in her favor in terms of stage presence.
3) Christina is a singer-songwriter. But, that wasn’t her original “job!” She was a high school English teacher. Her students discovered her hobby during the pandemic, and encouraged her to audition!
4) She is working on her debut album called Monsters & Mothers. According to her website, half the album contains songs about self care; the other half is about moments of doubt, fear, and/or loneliness. It’ll be released this summer.
5) Christina is a great guitar player too. She’s played a ton of live shows all over Tennessee in the last year. Check out a snippet from a show below:
