Meet Drake McCain from American Idol – He’s Back for a Second Chance!

American Idol is back this week airing its Hollywood Rounds! One contestant taking part is Drake McCain. While you may not have seen his audition on TV, he received a golden ticket. So, if you want to learn more about him, keep reading below. We’ve gathered five facts about the unique talent.

Update on 3/29/21: Drake McCain sang “Country Girl (Shake It For Me)” by, Luke Bryan. Unfortunately, Drake did not make it to the top 24 of American Idol.

Update 3/21/21: Drake came out in the country group and was nicknamed “Knight Rider” by Katy Perry for appearing “mysterious” during his performance with his hat down over his eyes. He moved on to the Hollywood Duets week.

Get to Know Drake McCain

1) Drake is 17 years old. His look is very unique, which makes him stand out. Red hair and freckles are a part of his signature. Get this: his hair stands up on its own. He doesn’t have to style it at all! Pretty cool, right? He’s proud of who he is and where he comes from, and that confidence shines through in his work.

2) He’s verified on Instagram. He has over 49,000 followers! That might be because this isn’t his first time trying out for American Idol. Previously, Drake tried out for season 17 in 2019.

3) When he’s not singing, he’s lounging in the pool or going to the arcade. Living in Tennessee, we bet it’s easy to find time to spend outdoors.

4) According to a local news article, he’s the second oldest sibling. He has a large family! He has 8 sisters and 2 brothers. He’s very close with his family, even helping his mom take care of some of them.

5) While there’s no news of original music, he is excited to get back to the studio. Meanwhile, Drake’s done amazing covers of songs. Check out this one of Conan Gray’s hit song “Heather”:

Did Drake McCain Audition for American Idol in 2019?

Bonus Fact! You may also recognize Drake – and for good reason. This isn’t the first time he will be on American Idol. Drake did indeed audition for ‘American Idol’ in 2019. When he walked in the room, Katy Perry was quick to point out his hair! “How tall are you without the hair?” “5’9” he replied. “How about with the hair?” she asked. “6’2′” he laughed. Drake was eliminated in season 17 after the Hawaii Rounds. He sang “Girls Like You” by Maroon 5, ft. Cardi B.
