Doorbot from Shark Tank: 5 Facts & Update

  • by

Doorbot, now better known as Ring, is one of the most famous products to come out of ABC’s hit entrepreneurial show, Shark Tank. The stellar home security doorbell was designed to protect your home while sending data to your phone through their app. It’s kind of like having caller ID for your door. Keep reading below for five facts and an update on Ring.

1) Ring was originally known as Doorbot, and it was invented back in 2012 by Jamie Siminoff. One shocking thing you may not know? Jamie did not walk away with a deal, or a shark investor when he went on the show!

2) Since his Shark Tank show, Jamie has launched the Neighbors app, video doorbell accessories, and smart lighting by Ring. In 2019, they were bought by Amazon, and were even featured on QVC. We’re betting the sharks are kicking themselves a little bit now!

3) The Ring’s social media presence is arguably one of the best to ever come off the ABC show. Their Instagram and Twitter are verified, with 118,000 and 47,000 followers, respectively. They curate some wonderful content, including videos and snapshots of clients using their products.

4) Apparently there was one shark that was interested in Jamie’s product: “Mr. Wonderful” aka: Kevin O’Leary. The catch? Jamie deemed Kevin’s offer as unacceptable. The offer was for 700,000 dollars, and he would collect 10% of all sales until the loan was paid off. Kevin also wanted a 7% royalty, and 5% of the company’s equity, according to Business Insider. Jamie turned it down, and walked away back in 2013; now, 7 years later, he’s doing better than ever.

5) The majority of the Amazon reviews have leaned positively. Ring has received an average of 4/5 stars; customer reviews for the most part stating that it’s “a great product,” and a “very nice add to your smart home.” You can shop Ring on Amazon.
