Back in 2011, Heather’s talents jumped out at so many people. It came to the point articles were written about her saying, “is Heather the next Justin Bieber?” Since Heather was from Canada and a big singer discovered at such a young age, the comparison certainly makes sense.

How did Simon Cowell discover Heather Russell?

According to thestar.com she said, “Cowell gave her a contract after former Canadian Idol judge Zack Werner tipped him to a video on YouTube posted by her parents, James Russell and Monica Cidade, British newspapers reported Thursday.”

1) Heather Russell is only 20 years old. But, she’s been in the industry for 10 years! Yes, you read that right. She began her music career at age 10.

2) Her big break came when Rob Fusari noticed her on YouTube. Her original song “Beautiful” garnered massive attention. He signed her to a production deal, then she met Simon Cowell. Simon signed her to Syco Entertainment; she subsequently signed with CAA.

3) After her contract ended in 2012, Heather later signed with BBox Entertainment. Her first EP was released in 2015. The next year, her song “Got This Feeling” was used on a Pretty Little Liars episode. See the music video below:

4) Her debut full-length album My Metropolis debuted at #38 on the Canadian charts in 2018. Her sound is pop, soul, and contemporary R&B.

5) Heather’s a singer and songwriter. She and her dad wrote American Idol alum Jessica Sanchez’s song “Crazy Glue.” Heather’s also worked with some big names, such as BabyFace on songwriting and music production.
