Update on The Mad Optimist

The Mad Optimist has 4K+ followers on Instagram and the last post they have up is from December 2020. The post was about a promotion for the holidays. On Facebook they have a rating of 4.7 out of 5 with 3.6K likes.

The offer

The Madhi brothers asked for $60,000 for 10% equity in their company when they entered the Shark Tank. They valued their business at $600,000. Mark Cuban offered $60,000 for 25% instead of the 10% they were requesting cutting the value of the company to $240,000. After some negotiating, Cuban offered $60,000 for 20% equity and the brothers chose to go with Cuban.

The deal they struck with Mark Cuban on Shark Tank never actually closed. However, that didn’t seem to stop the brothers.

Are They Still in Business?

Yes! Mad Optimist is still in business as of 2022. They are said to have made $1 million in revenue.

1) The Mad Optimist originally began as a soap company, but has since expanded to include a wide range of personal care supplies, like soaps, balms, sprays, and bath materials.

2) The Mad Optimist was created by 3 friends, Anthony Duncan, Mohammed M. Mahdi, and his brother, Mohammed A. Mahdi. They are currently headquartered in Bloomington, Indiana.

3) The reason behind wanting to create soaps and other body products that are vegan, gluten and GMO-free, as well as organically sourced? Their religious culture! The 3 friends are Muslim and vegan, so they don’t eat meat, nor do they like the idea of putting traditional animal-fat soaps to use. Enter: The Mad Optimist.

4) A key difference between their soaps, and the classic ones you usually see is that they allow their soap “to cure in just 24 hours rather than the typical 30 days,” according to their official website.

5) If you don’t find a scent or type of product you prefer, not to worry – you can create your own! Personalize the scent, choose the product, and even name the price, all on their website! How neat is that?
